Following the recent acquisition of Carlsson Autotechnik GmbH by Zhongsheng Group Holdings Ltd, the German tuning firm specializing in Mercedes-Benz vehicles has announced the Carlsson C25 Super GT limited edition exclusively for China.

Limited to seven vehicles and already sold out, the heavily revamped Mercedes SL-Class features a carbon fiber body resulting in a savings of 180 kgs (397 lbs). Compared to the donor vehicle, the body also receives redesigned front and rear lights, rear side and rear windows. Further highlights include composite brake system and C-Tronic Suspension chassis with iPhone control.

But perhaps the biggest surprise or disappointment is the powerplant. Instead of the SL600 sourced 6.0-liter biturbo engine which produces 753 HP (554 kW / 743 bhp) and an electronically limited 1,150 Nm (848 lb-ft) of torque found in the standard C25 Super GT, for some reason not specified, the China limited edition receives a 'Carlsson V8' with 450 HP (331 kW / 444 bhp).

All seven units will be made to order. The C25 LE serial number 1 will be transferred by air to Shanghai. The other vehicles will be hand-manufactured over the next twelve months at Gut Wiesenhof in Merzig and then delivered to the customers. The Carlsson C25 Limited Edition has a base price of 4,000,000 RMB.

"We wanted to develop a vehicle that is highly exclusive on the one hand, and on the other hand can be also be used for the daily commute to the office. A Super GT which impresses with its driving comfort in urban traffic as much as its capability to go from zero to 100. This concept is especially suited to the Chinese market and we are delighted with the very high level of interest," said Carlsson CEO and engineer Markus Schuster.
