Spy photographers have caught the all-new SEAT Leon 5-door performing some nocturnal testing last night.

These latest pictures show a heavily camouflaged prototype not giving much away, except the night time darkness has allowed some design details of the tailamps to bleed out. The car appears to incorporate a very similar tailamp design first seen on the IBE Concept which debuted at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. An updated IBE concept was subsequently shown in Paris later that year, but its tailamp design was a little different and doesn't match this prototype as well.

The third generation Leon will ride on the MQB platform, same as the Volkswagen Golf VII and Audi A3 (8V), and it will feature a variety of petrol and diesel engines, however, a plug-in hybrid is also planned for release in 2014.

The redesigned Seat Leon could be launched in early 2013.
