Chevrolet has officially announced plans to offer an SS performance sedan.
Described as a "limited production derivative of the yet to be launched [Holden] VF Commodore," the Australian-built model will be rear-wheel drive and offered with a V8 engine - possibly the 6.2-liter LS3 V8 with 426 hp (318 kW / 432 PS) and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque.
The production model will go on sale in late 2013 and the NASCAR Sprint Cup racecar variant will debut at the 2013 Daytona 500.
According to Mark Reuss, president of GM North America, "The Chevrolet SS is a great example of how GM is able to leverage its global product portfolio to deliver a unique performance experience that extends beyond the track. I am personally looking forward to driving it."
