The inevitable spawning of an open-top variant of the McLaren MP4-12C sports car is almost upon us and according to a recent report we can expect a debut sometime this year. The news stems from a report filed by Car & Driver and they also speculate that the model will most likely be labeled the MP4-12C Spider.

The original MP4-12C Coupe sportscar was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2010 and the next incarnation of the annual event is due to begin at the end of next month. Therefore, it is easy to assume that McLaren may bring the Spider for its world debut at the same location, but should it fail to appear, the upcoming shows in Paris (September) and Los Angeles (November) are alternatively viable events.

The MP4-12C Spider will come equipped with a retractable carbon fiber roof and the same 3.8-liter V8 engine that powers its Coupe sibling. This means it should be good for 600 PS (441 kW / 592 hp) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque and a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) time of around 3.5 seconds.
