Due to overwhelming demand, Mazda has decided to extend production of the RX-8.

Citing a "large number of orders," the company will produce an additional 1,000 units of the JDM-exclusive RX-8 Spirit R. While it's unfortunate that the model won't be offered in additional markets, at least Mazda's rotary engine will be given a reprieve until June.

As we have previously reported, the Spirit R features a sport-tuned suspension, red brake calipers and special badging. Inside, there's a piano-black transmission tunnel, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and Recaro sport seats on models equipped with a six-speed manual transmission.
