Over the weekend, BMW released the first official details for the new i8 Spyder Concept. We were limited to just static images initially but now we bring you the first videos that showcase the model in motion.

The i8 Spyder Concept makes use of a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a 131 PS (96 kW / 129 hp) electric motor and a 223 PS (164 kW / 220 hp) three-cylinder range-extending petrol engine.

The combined power is passed to the wheels via an all-wheel-drive system and enables it to accelerate from 0-100kph (0-62mph) in 5.0 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

A maximum of 30km (19 miles) can be completed in electric only mode before the range extender kicks in, fuel consumption is rated at 3 L/100 km (94.1 mpg UK / 78.4 mpg US).

The BMW i8 Spyder Concept is scheduled to be unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show.
