Ford Europe has announced the start of production of the new Fiesta ECOnetic which delivers improved efficiency.

Declared as their most fuel efficient and lowest CO2 emitting passenger car ever, the Fiesta ECOnetic is powered by a 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine producing 95HP (71kW) and 205Nm (161lb-ft) of torque achieving 3.3l/100km (86mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 87g/km.

As demand for fuel efficiency increases, Ford says half of their European sales will be ECOnetic equipped models by the end of 2012 and will increase to two-thirds in 2013.

Ford ECOnetic technology features Auto-Start-Stop, Smart Regenerative Charging, Eco Mode, shift indicator light, special engine calibration, optimised gear ratios, lower suspension, undershield and wheel deflectors and low-rolling resistance tires.

Rolling off the production line at Ford's Cologne Assembly plant in Germany, the fiesta ECOnetic will be available in three-door and five-door form and in a variety of trim levels, depending on market.
