After much speculation, prices have finally been announced for Fiat's all-new 500 supermini ahead of its launch in the UK from January next year. Aimed at undercutting its class rivals, the simple pricing structure allows for the speccing of a higher trim or engine upgrade for £1,400, with the £10,700 1.3 and 1.4 unit vehicles featuring alloy wheels and air conditioning as standard.
Models will be available in three trim guises - Pop, Sport and Lounge - and priced from £7,900 on the road for the entry-level 1.2-litre 'Pop'. The remainder of the 65 hp 1.2 units are priced at £9,300 in 'Sport' and 'Lounge' guise, while further 'Pop'-specced 500s featuring more powerful engines will also be priced from just over nine thousand pounds. A third pricing tier, with higher-specced Sport and Lounge trims, features the 75 hp 1.3-litre MultiJet turbodiesel and 100 hp 1.4-litre petrol unit for £10,700.
'Pop' entry-level vehicles feature safety features including anti-lock brakes and five airbags, power steering and radio/CD/MP3 player, with stylish exterior additions including colour-coded bumpers and chrome door handles. A glass sunroof, metallic paint and parking sensors are all on the extensive options list.
The 'Sport' and 'Lounge' models, which carry a £1,400 premium over their 'Pop' counterparts, offer a host of standard equipment, including the Blue & Me hands-free media system, air con and 15-inch alloy wheels. Exclusive to Sport-specced models is a sports interior, tinted rear windows and new rear roof spoiler, while Lounge models are treated to a split folding rear seat and a fixed glass roof.
