Although we have seen most of this in the past, the styling will mirror the already revealed five-door version and design patents have also surfaced of the three-door model variant.

The new 1-series rides on a rear-wheel drive platform and offers an updated range of turbocharged engines. The 116i and the 118i are powered by a 1.6 liter turbo engine that has been tuned to respective power outputs of 134 bhp (100 kW/136 PS) and 168 bhp (125 kW/170 PS). There will also be three diesel units on offer with outputs of 114 bhp (85 kW/116 PS), 141 bhp (105 kW/143 PS) and 182 bhp (135 kW/184 PS).

The three-door BMW 1-series is expected to hit the first dealerships in the summer.
