BMW has officially entered the four-door premium coupe market with the unveiling of the new 6-series Gran Coupe at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. It is due to fight a hot headed battle with formidable opponents such as the Audi A7 and the well established Mercedes CLS-class.
The 6-series Gran Coupe will launch with a choice of three engine options. The entry level version will be the 640i that houses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 320 PS (235 kW / 315 hp) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. It will accelerate to 100kph (62mph) in 5.4 seconds with pricing starting at €79,500.
Moving over to the diesel side, the 640d Gran Coupe uses a 3.0-liter diesel engine with 313 PS (230 kW / 309 hp) and 630 Nm (465 lb-ft) of torque. Performance figures match its petrol sibling, with a 0-100kph (0-62mph) of 5.4 seconds and prices start at €83,000.
The range topping 650i Gran Coupe is powered by the same twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 that is used by the 2012 M6 Coupe, although it generates a lot less ponies with output rated at 450 PS (330 kW / 443 hp) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. The 650i Gran Coupe accelerates from 0-100kph (0-62mph) in 4.6 seconds and starts at a whopping price of €92,600.
