Smart is tapping sibling brand Mercedes-Benz in giving their first ebikes to Formula 1 drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg.

Set to be launched in April, the €2,849 ebike (including VAT) features a 250 watt electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. This setup assists the rider for a distance of approximately 100 km (62 miles).

According to Schumacher, "Just like KERS on our race cars the electric motor on the ebike provides extra thrust. This means that we are also among the front-runners in the drivers' paddock."

Perhaps it would have been "smarter" to give them the more powerful smart Brabus ebike with 500 watts.
