BMW has officially unveiled the new M6 Coupe and Convertible.
Looking decidedly aggressive, the models feature a unique appearance with new bumpers, flared wheel arches and ventilated front fenders. There's also LED headlights, a revised grille, a rear diffuser and aerodynamic side skirts. Lastly, the models have a four tailpipe exhaust system and 19-inch alloy wheels (20-inchers are optional).
The coupe has a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic roof, while the convertible retains its trademark soft top with a double-buttress (aka flying buttress) design. It opens in 19 seconds and can be operated at speeds up to 40 km/h (25 mph).
Inside, the cabin is luxuriously appointed with Merino leather sport seats, a bespoke gear knob and a unique steering wheel with paddle shifters. There's also a revised instrument cluster, carbon fiber trim, illuminated sill plates and ambient lighting. Options include a heated steering wheel, GPS navigation and a Bang & Olufsen audio system.
In the tech department, the models can be equipped with a head-up display, high beam assist and BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition. Customers can also order a lane change / lane departure warning system, a rear-view camera and an internet-connected infotainment system with apps for Facebook and Twitter.
Under the hood, both models are powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine with 560 PS (412 kW / 552 hp) and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with drivelogic and launch control. This enables the coupe to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, while the convertible does the same task in 4.3 seconds. Both have an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), but that can be increased to 305 km/h (189 mph) with the M Driver's Package. In terms of efficiency, the coupe averages 9.9 L/100 km (28.5 mpg UK / 23.7 mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 232 g/km. The convertible, on the other hands, returns 10.3 L/100 km (27.4 mpg UK / 22.8 mpg US) and has CO2 emissions of 239 g/km.
Other highlights include a sport-tuned suspension, an active M differential and a revised dynamic stability control system with an "M Dynamic" mode. There's also high-performance brakes (carbon-ceramic brakes are optional), M servotronic steering and a unique dynamic damper control system.
The BMW M6 convertible will arrive at U.S. dealerships in June and the coupe will be launched later this summer.
