The Mercedes CLS Shooting Break is scheduled to be launched later this year and our spies have caught a handful of prototypes wearing minimal camouflage.

Previewed by the Shooting Break concept, the production model looks virtually identical to the standard CLS but adopts a rear hatch for added cargo capacity. The overall design leaves something to be desired, but the car's key competitors - the Audi A7, BMW 5-Series GT and Porsche Panamera - aren't exactly a sight for sore eyes either.

Engine options will likely carryover from the standard model, so expect a 204 PS (150 kW / 201 hp) 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, a 265 PS (195 kW / 262 hp) 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, a 306 PS (225 kW / 302 hp) 350 BlueEFFICIENCY and a 408 PS (300 kW / 402 hp) 500 BlueEFFICIENCY. Sadly, an AMG variant is unlikely.
