Tuner John Hennessey of Hennessey Performance has stated in an interview with late-night TV talk show host Jay Leno that he plans to beat the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport for the title of fastest production vehicle of all time with his Venom GT supercar.
Hennessey explains that the 1200 bhp (895 kW / 1,217 PS) Venom GT which weighs 2700 lbs. (1225 kg), almost half the weight of the Veyron Super Sports, has a power to weight ratio at 1kg/hp. The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport on the other hand weighing 1300 lbs (590 kg) more and also producing 1200 PS (1184 bhp / 883 kW) has a power to weight ratio at 1.6kg/hp.
On July 4, 2010, the Bugatti Super Sport achieved an average of 431.072 km/h (267.856 mph) at Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessien high-speed test track.
Hennessey says, "The purpose of the car wasn't to beat the super sports record, but we feel the car is capabale of doing it, so why not?"
No date has been confirmed yet from Hennessey as to when a possible record breaking attempt could take place, but we'll be sure to let you know when they do.
