First spy shots of the new Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class wagon variant first showed up a couple of months ago. Now spies have caught the prototype vehicle on video during winter testing in northern Sweden near the Arctic Circle.

Previewed as the CLS Shooting Brake concept at the 2010 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, Mercedes-Benz has already confirmed the model will go to production. Daimler AG chairman, Dr. Dieter Zetsche stated, "The decision to build the CLS Shooting Brake underscores the leading role of Mercedes-Benz in regards of innovative passenger car concepts and design - and that is exactly what the customers expect from us."

Engines expected are the same as in the CLS-Class four-door coupe. Expect a 204 PS (150 kW / 201 hp) 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, a  265 PS (195 kW / 262 hp) 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, a 306 PS  (225 kW / 302 hp) 350 BlueEFFICIENCY, and a 408 PS (300 kW / 402 hp) 500 BlueEFFICIENCY.

Scheduled to launch in 2012, the wagon/estate variant will be built at the Sindelfingen plant and compete with the Audi A7, BMW 5-Series GT, and Porsche Panamera.
