The Toyota Auris has struggled against rivals such as the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf and Toyota execs appear to agree putting a powerful diesel into the line-up will help appeal to buyers. The next generation Auris will receive fresh styling and increased driving dynamics and if previous reports were correct, the Auris could even be renamed.

The deal that was previously announced between the automotive superpowers sees the German automaker supplying 1.6 liter and 2.0 liter diesel engines to Toyota beginning in 2014. In return, BMW will benefit from Toyota's battery technology.
