2014 WRX will be independent model in Subaru lineup and feature an STI variant with all-wheel drive.
According to a report by Car & Driver, the upcoming 2014 Subaru WRX will have an STI variant that will be a proper heir to the current model and keep it's main specs intact. This comes as a reassurance that the rear-wheel-drive BRZ coupe doesnt signal the demise of all-wheel-drive performance cars.
The WRX STI will remain all-wheel drive and feature Subaru's new 2.0 liter FB (boxer four) power plant. The STI variant will also have more than 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS).
The WRX will be its own model and built on a new dedicated platform which is expected to deliver smaller curb weights for both the standard WRX and its STI variant. We've previously reported on how the 2014 WRX will no longer be based on the Impreza model.
