Chevrolet has officially unveiled the 2012 Cobalt, which will be available in over 40 countries in Europe, Africa, South America and the Middle East.
As previewed by the concept, the production model has a prominent grille, vertical taillights and slightly odd proportions. The exterior styling won't win everyone over, but the cabin features a clean design with a sporty steering wheel, an analog / digital instrument cluster and 18 storage compartments. Speaking of the latter, the trunk holds a class-leading 563 liters (19.9 cubic feet) of luggage.
Under the hood, a variety of four-cylinder engines will be available with displacements ranging from 1.3- to 1.8-liters. More specifically, in Brazil, the Cobalt can be equipped with a 1.4-liter unit that develops 97 PS (71 kW / 96 hp) and 126 Nm (93 lb-ft) of torque - when running on petrol. This enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 11.9 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 170 km/h (106 mph).
