Chevrolet has announced the 2013 Spark EV will have an electric motor that develops 114 hp (85 kW / 116 PS).

Chevrolet has released new information about the electric motor that will be used in the 2013 Spark EV.

Built at the company's plant in Maryland, the electric motor will produce 114 hp (85 kW / 116 PS). While that doesn't sound like much, the Spark's cousin - the Beat EV concept - only had 60 hp (45 kW / 61 PS).

According to Larry Nitz, GM's executive director of Vehicle Electrification Engineering, "Electric motor development and manufacturing is another area of expertise we'll need as we expand vehicle electrification technologies to address the needs of our customers around the world."
