Mercedes is wrapping up development on the 2012 GL-Class and our spies have caught a couple of prototypes undergoing testing near the Nürburgring.

Resembling an enlarged M-Class, the seven-seat crossover has an improved design that eschews the blocky styling of the current model. More specifically, the AMG variant is distinguished by unique bumpers, a four-tailpipe exhaust system and AMG wheels.

Under the hood, we can expect a 258 PS (190 kW / 255 hp) 3.0-liter V6 diesel and possibly a twin-turbo 4.6-liter V8 petrol with 408 PS (300 kW / 402 hp). For more power, the GL63 AMG is slated to feature a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 with 525 PS (386 kW / 518 hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.
