Lotus is looking into the future and entering the 2012 CIK-FIA World Karting Championship.

Competing under the Lotus Racing Karts banner, the newly formed team will be operated by Jefra Racing which is based in Treviso, Italy. Furthermore, the drivers will compete in two new kart chassis models 'Colin C30' and 'Jimmy C32' developed by Wildkart in the KF and KZ classes.

While Lotus will become the first automaker to enter the sport, they believe the move will provide them an opportunity to spot talented drivers at an early age. As the company points out, Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton all got their start in karting.

According to Miodrag Kotur, Lotus Motorsport's Director of Operations, "Not only are we nurturing new talent and widening our motorsport program, but we also have an opportunity to join forces with two world-class specialists. It is exciting to see Lotus Motorsport grow in such an authentic, fresh and exhilarating way."
