Hyundai recently introduced an eight-speed automatic transmission in the 2012 Genesis and Equus models.

Hyundai Motor Group, which inlcudes the Hyundai and Kia brands, is developing an automatic ten-speed transmission, according to a report by Automotive News.

The new ten-speed transmission will go into premium models such as the Hyundai Genesis and Equus and is slated to be introduced by 2014.

Automakers are increasingly looking at extended gearing in order to improve the fuel economy of their ranges. Porsche recently introduced a seven-speed manual in the new 911 whereby the seventh gear is meant for low-engine speed cruising while top speed is actually reached in sixth gear.
