The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu could be equipped with a new turbocharged 2.5-liter engine. Learn more inside

New details are starting to emerge about a high-performance Chevrolet Malibu.

During a recent trip to the Milford Proving Grounds, Inside Line discovered the 2.5-liter Ecotec engine will likely be equipped with a turbocharger. The website estimates this will allow the mill to develop at least 250 hp (186 kW / 253 PS) which is 60 hp (45 kW / 61 PS) more than the naturally-aspirated unit.

GM declined to discuss future product plans, but it's clear the Malibu needs a more powerful engine to compete with the Hyundai Sonata 2.0T and Toyota Camry V6.
