New concept vehicle will serve as a showcase for Volvo's new platform and 4-cylinder engine technology.
Volvo has teased the new Concept You ahead of its debut at the IAA Frankfurt auto show next week.
Detail on the concept are few but Volvo says the car will be a showcase for the automaker's new architecture and engine technology. Volvo recently announced a new range of VEA (Volvo Environmental Architecture) 4-cylinder engines which are lighter, more powerful and more efficient than the 6-cylinder units they will be replacing.
The new concept will also serve as a preview to the new SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture) platform which can underpin a variety of models with different specifications and dimensions on a single assembly line.
All this is part of Volvo's new strategy of forsaking its near-premium or premium brand ambitions to become a volume automaker with a range of small, efficient power plants as well as having state-of-art hybrid and electric vehicle technology.
