New and efficient roadster boasts a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 6.7 seconds and fuel-economy of 4.9 liters/100 km.

Mercedes-Benz claims the 2012 SLK 250 CDI combines the top-notch performance expected of such a roadster with the frugality of a compact minicar.

And the 2.2 liter diesel unit under the hood delivers that.

The SLK 250 CDI Roadster comes fitted with a 204 PS (150 kW / 201 bhp) diesel engine with a stomping 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque on tap too.

Performance is impressive - and on fuel-economy too. 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes just 6.7 seconds while that broad torque band delivers an 80 km/h (50 mph) to (75 mph) 120 km/h burst time of 4.3 seconds.

Fuel-economy is comparable to a Volkswagen Polo at 4.9 liters/100 km and CO2 emissions are just 128 g/km.

The 2012 SLK 250 CDI is available in Germany from September 13 onward with prices starting at €41,828.50, VAT included.
