Land Rover has announced the 2012 Defender will be offered with a new 2.2-liter diesel engine.

Land Rover has announced a series of updates for the 2012 Defender.

First and foremost, a new EU5 2.2-liter diesel engine - with 122 PS (90 kW / 120 hp) and 360 Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque - replaces the previous 2.4-liter unit. It enables the SUV to hit a top speed of 90 mph (145 km/h) and have CO2 emissions of 266 g/km (Defender 90) and 295 g/km (Defender 110 / 130).

In addition, two new option packages are available. The Comfort Pack is priced from £1650 and features air conditioning, a CD player and power windows / locks. On the other hand, the £1500 Off-Road Pack adds anti-lock brakes, off-road tires, underbody protection and a ball hitch.

The 2012 Defender will be launched in November and UK pricing starts at £20,995.
