Auto Express has the scoop on the upcoming 2012 Vauxhall Astra VXR/Opel Astra OPC, which they report has just been confirmed for production.
The Astra GTC-based VXR/OPC model will come with an output of around 300 PS (220 kW / 295 bhp). Auto Express doesn't mention whether it will be from a turbocharged 1.6 liter or 2.0 liter unit, but we expect it to be a 2.0 liter, like on competing models such as the VW Scirocco R.
The car will come with 20-inch alloy wheels, race-style bucket sport seats and color-coded body paneling. In order to keep fuel-economy at a tame level, the Astra OPC/VXR will also come with a stop-start system.
The OPC/VXR will get larger brakes and a more pronounced exhaust note. Opel/Vauxhall's FlexRide system with its three driving modes will come standard in the vehicle. The FlexRide feature may even get a special new setting on the OPC/VXR for a more exciting drive with tighter steering and less input from the ESP.
The 2012 Opel Astra OPC/Vauxhall Astra VXR will debut sometime next year.
