Performance edition of the upcoming next-generation S-Class is being developed alongside the standard model.

This 2013 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG prototype was spied testing on the Nürburgring.

Development of this flagship performance sedan must be progressing as AMG has seen fit now to take its own version of the upcoming next-generation S-Class to the ring for a rigorous workout.

The prototype is still heavily camouflaged but what we do expect for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG is the 5.5 liter twin-turbo V8 unit dialed up to around the 544 PS (400 kW / 537 bhp) mark in standard guise, and 571 PS (420 kW / 563 bhp) with the AMG Performance Package. Transmission will likely be the seven-speed Speedshift MCT gearbox.

The model is expected to debut next year, sometime after the introduction of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
