The Mazda6 will continue into the next-generation but the model's production will be consolidated at Mazda's Hofu plant in Japan with Michigan assembly ending at the end of the current product cycle.
Mazda produces the North American-spec Mazda6 model at the AutoAlliance International plant in Michigan, a joint-venture production facility shared with Ford. Assembly of the Mazda6 will continue at the Flat Rock, Michigan plant until the middle of next year when a new generation of the model commences production in Japan.
The joint-venture plant's future is now uncertain as there will no longer be a Mazda vehicle in production there. Ford uses the plant to build the Mustang.
