Near production-ready Model S Alpha features new design cues over previous prototype.

Tesla Motors has unveiled a near production-ready Model S Alpha.

The car's design has evolved over the last prototype that was made public and features a new front bumper and larger front air intakes.

The Tesla S Alpha is slated to go to production next year with the first batch of cars coming off the line in the second half of 2012. Deliveries will begin in mid-2012 in North America and later in the year for Europe.

The car will come in 3 main variants which differ in range. The most expensive, the Model S 300M which costs approximately $77,400, having the largest battery pack with a range of approximately 300 miles (483 km).

Cheaper variants with less range will also be offered - the 230M (230 miles/307 km) and 160M (160 miles/258 km) - each costing around $10,000 less than the next longer-range model.
