After reading Motor1.com's recently published First Drive of the new 2019 Nissan Altima, you might be tempted to check one out at your local dealer soon. Now, Nissan is revealing just how much you should expect to pay for the new sedan. Prices now start at $23,750 for the front-wheel-drive S trim, versus a base cost of $23,260 for the 2018 model. The Altima is available with all-wheel drive for the first time, and this system takes the entry-level grade to $25,100.

Even base trims of the Altima now come standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth support for its 8-inch infotainment system. The driver gets an eight-way power adjustable seat. Plus, there's a big boost in active safety with standard automatic emergency braking, intelligent forward collision warning, and rear door alert.

The new Altima is here:

Buyers can also add an optional Nissan Safety Shield 360 system that includes pedestrian detection for the automatic emergency braking system, rear automatic braking, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, and high beam assist. For even more high-tech help, the range-topping Premium trim comes standard with the Intelligent Around View Monitor.

Nissan updates its 2.5-liter four-cylinder to produce 188 horsepower (140 kilowatts) and 180 pound-feet (244 Newton-meters), instead of 179 hp (134 kW) and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) from the version in the previous generation. For a starting price of $29,150 on the SR trim, customers can get the company's new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with variable compression that makes 248 hp (185 kW) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm), and this powerplant is only available on front-wheel-drive Altimas.

If a buyer wants all the bells and whistles, the Edition One is available at launch. It takes the range-topping Platinum trim and adds 19-inch wheels, a trunk lip spoiler, and illuminated door sill plates. Buyers also get three years of access to the Nissan Concierge service.

About the 2019 Nissan Altima
The 2019 Altima's expressive design is lower, longer and wider than the previous generation with a highly balanced, aggressive stance that includes available 19-inch wheels and tires. Inside, the all-new premium interior features a wide "gliding wing" instrument panel – which accentuates the exterior's low cowl and hood, helping create an open, airy environment. It is available in a range of nine dynamic exterior colors.

Key interior comfort and convenience features range from standard 8-way power driver's seat with added bolstering for improved holding and support, to a selection of audio and infotainment choices, including a Bose® Premium Audio system with nine speakers, and a new digital amplifier with eight channels of custom equalization.

In addition to standard Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, every 2019 Altima comes equipped with standard Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, Streaming Audio via Bluetooth®, Hands-Free Text Messaging Assistant, and Siri® Eyes Free voice recognition. Available NissanConnect® Services powered by SiriusXM® provides compatible smartphone and smartwatch access to features such as Remote Engine Start/Stop3, Remote Door Lock/Unlock, Valet Alert, and more. Additionally, certain remote features are accessible through the NissanConnect Services Amazon Alexa Skill and Google Assistant Action.

Standard on all grade levels is a new 2.5-liter DOHC inline 4-cylinder direct injection engine, which is rated at 188 horsepower (versus the previous 2.5-liter's 179 hp) and 180 lb-ft of torque (versus the previous 177 lb-ft). More than just the gains in horsepower and torque, the new engine is more refined, quieter and offers improved fuel economy (based on EPA figures).

Replacing the previous-generation Altima's 3.5-liter V6 engine is the company's world's first production-ready variable compression turbo inline 4-cylinder, called the VC-Turbo. It delivers near V6-level performance with 4-cylinder fuel economy. The VC-Turbo seamlessly changes its compression ratio between 8:1 (for high performance) and 14:1 (for high efficiency). The engine delivers 248 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque (premium fuel). The new engine is available on Altima SR and Platinum VC-Turbo front-wheel drive grades.

The 2019 Altima also offers available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive for the first time ever on a Nissan sedan in the U.S. The AWD system is available on all trim levels equipped with the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine.

The range of safety and convenience features includes standard Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (I-FCW) and Intelligent Driver Alertness (I-DA) on all grades. Intelligent Around View Monitor (I-AVM) is standard on the Altima Platinum.
