Conversion of Class 5 Ram 5500 Crew Cab included adding fuel capacity for a total of 170 gallons.
Chrysler wants to toughen-up the image of the Ram pickup.
This concept is called the Ram Long-Hauler and it is based on the Class 5 Ram 5500 Crew Cab.
But the modifications are extensive and the cabin has been converted into a Mega Cab passenger compartment complete with leather seats.
Fuel capacity has also been added - lots. Total capacity can now reach up to 170 gallons by means of a second frame-mounted fuel tank as well as a third, optional bed-mounted auxiliary tank. That means fueling up would cost up to around 750 dollars given current gas prices in the U.S.
Powering the Ram Long-Hauler is an inline six-cylinder 6.7 liter High Output Cummins Turbo Diesel engine with around 800 lb.-ft. of torque (1083 Nm). Transmission is a six-speed Aisin AS68RC automatic and the Ram Long-Hauler is a four-wheel-drive, of course.
Total load capacity is 37,500 Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) - so that's quite an upgrade from a one-ton pickup.
The whole thing rides on a Kelderman air suspension and 19.5-inch Alcoa aluminum wheels.
Other amenities include Wi-Fi capability, a laptop storage area and a safe inside the cabin.
