According to a recent report, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has confirmed plans to a launch diesel-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee in the United States by 2013.

Details are limited, but the model would likely feature the 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel engine that develops 237 hp (177 kW / 241 PS) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque. In Europe, the engine has a combined fuel economy rating of 8.3 L/100km (28.3 mpg US) which handily beats the numbers posted by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 petrol.
