Here's a surprise, the long-rumored Jeep pickup is nothing more than an official Mopar conversion package.
Dubbed the JK-8 Independence, the model is based on the Wrangler Unlimited and draws inspiration from the legendary CJ-8 Scrambler. Details are fairly limited, but the do-it-yourself kit includes new inner/outer body panels, a hardtop, and a pickup bed that measures 50 inches long and 44 inches wide (between the rear wheel wells).
According to Jim Sassorossi, Mopar's Head of Sales and Marketing, an owner who's relatively handy can do the conversion in as little as a weekend. However, for the rest of us, it will probably take a little longer.
The JK-8 Independence will be officially unveiled at the 45th Moab Easter Jeep Safari, so stay tuned for more information.
