Hyundai i30 Fastback N Confirmed For Paris Motor Show
The feisty four-door will go on sale early in 2019.
Hyundai showed off its i30 Fastback last July. But in two months, we'll get a look at the hardcore variant of the otherwise sedated sedan: the i30 Fastback N. Like the i30 N and Veloster N before it, the i30 N fastback will be mean; expect a similar output and matching visual enhancements.
The i30 Fastback N will use the same 2.0-liter turbocharged engine as the hatchback, meaning it should have the same performance credentials. Output should be in the neighborhood of 247 horsepower (184 kilowatts) in standard guise and 271 hp (202 kW) if buyers opt for the Performance Pack.
Visually, the i30 Fastback N will be a dramatic departure from the entry-level model. But it will share plenty in common with its five-door sibling. Spy photos have hinted at an aggressive front fascia with a larger grille, bigger wheels, and an integrated rear spoiler out back with dual exhaust tips. Expect the i30 N fastback to ride a bit lower to the ground, too.
"i30 N, Veloster N, and i30 Fastback N have the same performance gene and share a strong character," said Executive Vice President Thomas Schemera. "They are equipped with sophisticated technology and design elements. At Hyundai, we always accept new challenges and try different things to deliver groundbreaking experiences for our customers. We aren't here to simply build cars, we want to create emotions, feelings, and desire."
The new i30 Fastback N will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show this October and should go on sale throughout Europe early in 2019. Buyers in the U.S. won't get either of the i30 N variants, but we can still make do with the hot Veloster N, set to go on sale in a few months.
