A throwback to the original 1959 Mini, the MINI Rocketman Concept has been revealed in Geneva.
Every year car models get bigger and bigger. In recognizing this, MINI decided to take the opposite approach and live up to their name. Measuring a tiny 3,419mm long, 1,907mm wide and 1,398mm tall, the Rocketman truly returns to it roots with a concept that has actually gotten smaller.
In a world where safety is paramount and bigger is better, MINI decided to construct the Rocketman from carbon fiber emphasizing a light weight body for fuel efficiency and top safety as carbon fiber crash properties are the best technology has to offer.
Despite its simplicity, MINI couldn't resist the opportunity to make it cutting edge. The result is an unusual door concept which allows passengers to enter and exit the dimunitive vehicle with ease. MINI accomplishes this by using double-hinged doors which "pivot outwards complete with their sills." Additionally, the two-piece tailgate has a lower rear section that opens outwards like a kitchen drawer. This unique feature allows the drawer to remain in the extend position so the Rocketman can accommodate four passengers and their luggage.
