A quattro variant of the A1 is coming and Audi has just released the first images of the car undergoing testing in snowy Montreal.

While details are limited, the quattro system will be similar to the one used on the A3 and TT.  It will feature "an electronically controlled, hydraulically actuated multi-plate clutch located in front of the rear axle for an optimized distribution of weight." Unfortunately, it's heavily front-biased so don't expect any miracles in the handling department.

Audi declined to say when quattro would be added to the lineup, but hinted it would be introduced in "future high performance A1 variants." The S1 perhaps?
