Pininfarina is up for sale and China's Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Corp (BAIC) is reportedly interested.

Details are limited, but BAIC apparently wants the Italian design juggernaut to create a new generation of vehicles based on the Saab 9-3. Despite sounding rather complicated, the company acquired the intellectual property rights to the 9-3 late last year.

It remains unclear if BAIC will ultimately win the Pininfarina bidding war but, if they do, expect to see some dramatic results.

As we have previously reported, Pininfarina has penned a number of high profile cars including the Rolls-Royce Hyperion, the Alfa Romeo 2uettottanta, and the Ferrari P540 Superfast Aperta.
