Ford has announced new details about the 2012 Focus Electric.
Set to be launched late next year, the EV will be available in Atlanta, Austin, Houston, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, New York, Orlando, Phoenix, Tucson, Portland, Raleigh Durham, Richmond, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.
According to Mark Fields, Ford's President of the Americas, "There is a great deal of excitement for the Focus Electric across America and Ford wants to build on this enthusiasm by making our first all electric passenger vehicle available in as many pilot markets as possible." He added, "As the country continues to build up its electric vehicle infrastructure and demand for the Focus Electric grows, Ford will continue to evaluate additional markets and consider making this vehicle available in more cities across the country."
While Ford is keeping mum on additional details, they stated the Focus Electric will be built on the same production line as the standard Focus. This will allow them to increase (or decrease) production as demand warrants. Furthermore, the electric motor will be powered by a 23 kWh lithium-ion battery which is expected to give the car a 100 mile range.
