Confirming earlier reports, Mercedes has announced plans to build the CLS Shooting Brake concept. It will compete with the Audi A7, BMW 5-Series GT, and Porsche Panamera.

Confirming earlier reports, Mercedes has announced plans to build a production version of the CLS Shooting Brake concept.

Scheduled to launch in 2012, the five-door hatchback will be built at the Sindelfingen plant and compete with the Audi A7, BMW 5-Series GT, and Porsche Panamera.

Details are limited, but engine options will likely carryover from the CLS. This means we can expect a 150 kW (204 PS / 201 hp) 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, a 195 kW (265 PS / 262 hp) 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, a 225 kW (306 PS / 302 hp) 350 BlueEFFICIENCY, and a 300 kW (408 PS / 402 hp) 500 BlueEFFICIENCY.

According to Dr. Dieter Zetsche, "The decision to build the CLS Shooting Brake underscores the leading role of Mercedes-Benz in regards of innovative passenger car concepts and design - and that is exactly what the customers expect from us."
