New Picanto compact city car promises a sportier look and will likely makes its debut at the Geneva motor show next March.

More spy shots coming to us from the vicinity of the Nürburgring circuit, this time of the 2012 Kia Picanto doing some prototype testing.

The compact city car from the Korean automaker appears to be promising a sportier, more appealing look for its next generation. Although still heavily camouflaged, we can spot the stretched headlamps broadening the front fascia of the car to give it a more aggressive face.

This new Picanto was developed by Kia's team in Russelsheim, Germany - expanding what is now a tradition of sister brands Hyundai and Kia designing some models in Europe to keep their products competitive in the style-driven European market.

The Picanto will likely come powered by the same Euro-5 compliant 1.2 liter Kappa petrol/gasoline engine as the Hyundai i10, with which it shares a platform. It will come in both 3-door and 5-door hatch configurations.

The next-generation 2012 Kia Picanto will likely make its debut at the Geneva auto show next March.
