There's more to the new Touareg than its gigantic touchscreen.
Billed as being a “high-tech flagship” for the Volkswagen core brand, the revamped Touareg aims to push the midsize SUV into premium territory with its plethora of systems. Some boost safety, others improve off-road capabilities, and there are a few more to increase comfort and ride quality. There’s also the media’s favorite topic these days, the completely new “Innovision Cockpit” combining a 12-inch driver’s display with a massive 15-inch touchscreen.
Beyond the gadgets, the 2019 VW Touareg aims to lure in buyers with its bigger body bringing a more spacious interior cabin without an increase in weight. In fact, the MLB Evo platform has cut 106 kilograms (234 pounds) by using aluminum for almost half of the body’s construction. Factor in the turbodiesel 4.0-liter V8 engine with 421 horsepower (310 kilowatts) and a monstrous 900 Newton-meters (664 pound-feet) of torque, there’s a lot to like about the new Touareg. Well, maybe except for the fact it won’t be coming to the United States.
