Chevrolet has released the first images and details about the 2012 Aveo.
Previewed by the Aveo RS Concept, the production model features an aggressive front bumper, hidden rear door handles, and chrome trim. While GM only released pictures of the hatchback, a sedan will also be offered.
Inside, the cabin features a motorcycle-inspired instrument cluster (likely from the Spark), blue accent lighting, a wrap-around dashboard, and audio systems with USB / Bluetooth connectivity. Thanks to a longer and wider chassis, interior room is now among the best in its class.
Under the hood, power will be provided by a variety of four-cylinder engines. Petrol options include a 1.2-liter with 70 hp (52 kW / 71 PS) and 86 hp (64 kW / 87 PS) as well as a 1.4-liter with 100 hp (75 kW / 101 PS). On the diesel side there's a 1.3-liter rated at 75 hp (56 kW / 76 PS) and 95 hp (71 kW / 96 PS). Transmission choices include five- and six-speed manuals as well as an optional six-speed automatic on the 1.4- and 1.6-liter petrols.
To improve ride and handling characteristics, the 2012 Aveo rides on a new platform which boasts a "tight body frame integral (BFI) structure where high torsional rigidity has been achieved - among the stiffest in the small car segment." This chassis improvement will be backed up by electric power steering, electronic stability control, and ABS brakes.
The sedan and hatchback will be launched next summer, so stay tuned for additional information.
