Honda has announced plans to stop selling the Civic Type R in "many areas of Europe."

While this is sad news, Honda didn't have a choice. The car's 150 kW (201 bhp / 204 PS) 2.0-liter engine is not Euro 5 compliant, which means it cannot be sold once those regulations go into effect next year.

Despite the end of European sales, the Swindon plant will continue to produce the Type R for markets where regulations allow it.

As we have previously reported, Honda recently ended production of the Japanese built four-door Civic Type R.
