The Audi R8 e-Tron has won the Silvretta E-Auto Rally Montafon 2010.
The 167.5 km (104 miles) rally race took place in Austria alongside the Silvretta Classic Montafon, which Audi also won.
"We are delighted at the Audi e-tron's victory in the first E-Auto Rally," said Michael Dick, Audi's head of technical development who also served as a driver of the e-tron in the rally. Lucas Luhr, and Audi test driver, was the other pilot at the wheel of the e-tron.
The R8 e-tron, a two-seat sports car with a total of four electric motors (two each for the front and rear axles), raced against 23 other electric vehicles and won the race by a margin of less than a second. The race took place over a period of three days and included ten time-trial stages.
No details were provided on how much/how often charging for the batteries was required to power the e-tron's 230 kW (313 hp) electric motors.
As for the other race, the Silvretta Classic Montafon, a team from Audi Tradition won it. Driver Luciano Viaro piloted a 1988 Audi ur-quattro to victory with the help of co-pilot Enrico Mussinelli - who is blind and read the roadbook in braille. Now, that is impressive.
