The first set of Fiat 500 models to be released in North America will be available only to fans of the brand who are members of the Fiat Lancia Unlimited club. The announcement was made by Laura Soave, Fiat's North American chief, at the club's annual convention in Asheville, North Carolina.
In a video produced by the Italian automaker, Soave is seen with the special edition, along with 100 classic models on display at the convention.
500 units of the car will be sold as the Fiat 500 Prima Edizione. The cars will be sold with sequential vehicle identification numbers, with buyers able to choose which number in the limited series they want to own.
Each of the cars are scheduled to be painted in gray, red, or white, with Prima Edizione badging at various points. All units will have a manual transmission mated to the 1.4-liter four-cylinder MultiAir engnine.
"The Fiat Cinquecento Prima Edizione was developed especially with the Fiat fans in mind," said Soave. "For over a quarter of a century, the members of this Club have kept the spirit of the Fiat and Lancia brands alive in North America through their unique and passionate support for true Italian design."
Reservations for the Fiat 500 Prima Edizione will begin at an unspecified date through www.ciaofiat.com.
