German tuner converts the Tahoe Hybrid to also run on LPG (Liquid Propane Gas).

German tuner GeigerCars has developed a LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) conversion kit for the Chevy Tahoe hybrid, turning the full-hybrid (aka dual-mode) SUV that can run on electric power, combustion engine or a combination of both, into a "tri-mode" vehicle.

The standard Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid comes with a 6.0 liter V8, producing 332 PS (244 kW) and 498 Nm of torque, coupled to two 60 kW electric motors. The SUV can run solely on electrical power for a limited range, powered by the 300-volt nickel-metal hydride battery. The Tahoe Hybrid also features a cylinder deactivation function which shuts down four of the engine's cylinders when less power is required. All that makes for a fuel economy rating of 21 mpg (11.2 liters/100 km) for this massive SUV, which the Munich-based tuner hopes to improve on.

GeigerCars claims fuel costs can be halved by running on LPG, although they don't provide any new fuel economy numbers. The conversion costs €4,000 ($5,240).

Total price for the LPG converted Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid is €60,000 ($78,500).
