Geneva-bound Peugeot's new 308 GT THP 175 shows spunk with its 1.6-litre turbo engine that punches out a healthy 175 bhp.

Peugeot will display the latest member of its feisty feline ancestry when the new 308 GT THP 175 breaks cover. Along with the 308 SW, Peugeot’s letting a different kettle of cat out their bags.

Power is motivated by a 1.6-litre turbo-charged petrol motor, the same one that performs its duties in a few other Peugeot as well as MINI models. And contrary to popular belief, the engine itself was designed and developed by BMW, while Peugeot provided the production muscle to mass-produce the units.

The plant itself is good for some 175 bhp/ 130.5kW and 180 lb ft of torque, as the name so subtly refers. Fitted alongside this as a mate,is a new 6-speed manual gearbox. Together they allow the car to move from zero to 62 mph in 8.3 seconds, with a top end of 140 mph. Combined fuel consumption is 37.1 mpg.

Exterior also got some work done. Included on this list is the new front bumper panel as well as the rear spoiler which reduce the car’s overall ride height. What other French feline models will be at the Geneva Motor Show will unfold as time goes on.
