Chevrolet will be auctioning-off the very first unit of the upcoming Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition at the Barrett-Jackson event in Palm Beach, Florida next month.

Only 500 units of the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon will be made for the series, and the winner of the bid will also get a tour of GM's Performance Build Center to watch that first Z06 Carbon come off the production line. The plant, located in Wixom, Michigan, is also where GM builds the hand-crafted LS7 and LS9 engines found in the Z06 and ZR1 Corvette range.

The Corvette Z06 Carbon is a commemorative edition celebrating the 50th anniversary of Corvette's first 24-hour LeMans race. Features include a carbon fiber raised hood, Magnetic Ride Control, carbon ceramic brakes from Brembo and rockers and splitter in carbon fiber black for a lighter, more aerodynamic design.

"The Corvette Z06 Carbon will surely be an instant collectible. For that reason, we see Barrett-Jackson as the premiere venue to sell the first retail Z06 Carbon," said Jim Campbell, vice president for marketing at Chevrolet USA.

The Barrett-Jackson auction takes place from April 1 to April 3.
