We have a picture and details of a new concept from Italdesign Giugiaro... and it isn't the 159. The story inside.

Italdesign Giugiaro will have a very busy schedule at the Geneva Motor Show next month.  The company joined with Malaysian firm Proton to create a line of environmentally friendly cars, including the Proton Hybrid Concept.

The five-door concept will debut along with Italdesign Giugiaro's highly-anticipated concept for the Alfa Romeo 159.

The Proton Hybrid has four seats and a high roof to increase cabin space.  This also made it easier for designers to raise the seats up, meaning passengers can get in and out without difficulty.

"This is the outcome of several years of study: the solution allows interior spaciousness on a par with that of a segment D saloon despite maintaining the exterior dimensions of a segment A car," said Italdesign Giugiaro boss Giorgetto Giugiaro.

The hybrid system includes an internal combustion engine fitted at the front used to recharge the lithium ion batteries, while the drive is fully electric.

The Proton Hybrid Concept will be introduced in Geneva next month.
